Councilor's Advice
This topic is where I will list some issues that I have seen repeatedly over the past few weeks in the clan. I will probably update this as time passes, if more issues pop up:
1. I have had to repeat this several times after unnecessary arguments: THINK BEFORE YOU SPEAK! Seriously, it doesn't matter how easily angered or sensitive you are to a snide comment made by someone, learn some self-control. It goes a long way. If you react angrily to something someone says, it almost ALWAYS sparks an argument. Then, as it turns out after I've managed to settle everyone down, it was simply miscommunication on someone's part (usually both people). Think logically before you decide to snap at someone. Respond politely and calmly, and maybe everything can be avoided. Use common sense.
2. When in doubt, press the ignore button. If you are AWARE that someone is just trying to annoy you, ignoring the subject until it gets lost in the flurry of conversation (which happens pretty fast in larger parties) will stop the issue in its tracks.
3. Try your best not to get an ego. It hasn't happened yet (thank GOD), but I'll give you fair warning when you start acting pompous. It doesn't matter if you're a Minor or Field Marshal, being a douche in general is just not okay.
4. As I have said above, use common sense! It's really not that difficult. It just involves not being biased. Somehow, that seems beyond many people's capabilities. I'd very much appreciate seeing myself proven wrong on this point.
5. Patience is a virtue. You may have heard that a thousand times before, but that doesn't mean it isn't true. My own patience is extravagant like you wouldn't believe. It's one of the main reasons I'm High Councilor in the first place.
6. If a situation gets a bit tense, feel free to use humor to lighten things up, but make sure what you say doesn't backfire. This goes back to Rule #1.
7. Be the bigger person in a situation. Just because someone else did something that annoyed you doesn't mean you should do it back to annoy them. That leads to more problems than it solves. If necessary, mute your mic and ignore the situation until it is resolved. You get more respect for acting like an adult than a child, and being childish in the first place is disruptive to all clan activities. Think of it this way: if you don't yell back at someone who pisses you off and instead go to me, you will not get in trouble, but the other person will. Conversely, if you do decide to expand the argument, you BOTH will be punished, so be warned.
There will probably be more to come in the future, but more importantly, I think I should note that these aren't just suggestions. These are facts. Use them well, and we can avoid quite a few arguments in the future.
IMPORTANT NOTE: And remember, as High Councilor, my job is to keep the peace and handle any complaints a member might have. PLEASE, if you have a problem, either personal or between you and another member, or even just a simple question, contact me FIRST AND FOREMOST. That is my job, and I cannot do that if I don't know what's going on.
Thank You,
High Councilor Elch 'Masalee
